Bishop orders priests to read anti-Obama letter at Sunday sermons
"Nothing justifies this peculiar and unreal stance of the president”

CHICAGO — Joining the chorus of Roman Catholic clergy in Illinois criticizing President Barack Obama before next week's election, Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky ordered priests to read a letter to parishioners on Sunday before the presidential election, explaining that politicians who support abortion rights also reject Jesus.
"By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass," Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria.
In the letter, Jenky cautions parishioners that Obama and a majority of U.S. senators will not reconsider the mandate that would require employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth control coverage in their health care plans. "This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system," Jenky wrote.
"Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord," Jenky added. "They are objectively guilty of grave sin."
Earlier this year, Jenky delivered a controversial homily criticizing the contraception mandate. The bishop included Obama's policies in a list of historic challenges the Catholic Church has overcome in previous centuries, including Hitler and Stalin's campaigns.
Jenky is the third Illinois Catholic leader to offer pointed guidance for Catholic voters in recent weeks. Last month, Springfield Bishop Thomas Paprocki offered a commentary on the Democratic and Republican parties' platforms that he said wasn't intended as instruction, but guidance.
"There are many positive and beneficial planks in the Democratic Party Platform, but I am pointing out those that explicitly endorse intrinsic evils," Paprocki explained in the Springfield Diocese newspaper.
"Again, I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against," he said. "But I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy."
Furthermore, in the Rockford Diocese, Vicar General Eric Barr compared Obama's support of religious freedom in Muslim countries to his lack of support for Catholic liberty.
"Meanwhile, Obamacare marches on, steamrolling Catholic morality and the First Amendment under its weight. How can that be tolerated by citizens?" Barr wrote.
"Nothing justifies this peculiar and unreal stance of the president," he said.
Spokeswoman Colleen Dolan said she doesn't expect Chicago's Cardinal Francis George to issue any statements before the election.

He, Jenky, is my Bishop and I love this man. He speaks the truth and won't back down! I turned Catholic after 45 years of Bible thumping, and this guy speaks the truth! There is a big change coming to the Church and it is a beautiful thing.

Catholics have been democrats for years...; but not now... they are finally waking up, and ohhh baby.. look out! A very powerful force of good people (mostly) who will help right the wrongs. Just look at their powerful stance for the unborn!

These people are the movers and shakers of this nation, so don't go looking for all the little stuff you find wrong, and look at who and what they really are. Lovers of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Excuse me, this country was founded on the separation of church and state. Everyone is entitled to their personal beliefs but when the bishops get involved of telling their people who to vote for, they are crossing this line. That is great the stance for the unborn but what about supporting the people and particularly the mothers and children who live in poverty after their children are born. These politicians who take their stance for pro-life forget that life isn't just about before the child is born. Wake up! The Catholic church is the richest organization in the world while the pope sites on his throne with crowned jewels in the rich vatican. How many hungary children could these jewels feed. Isn't something wrong with this picture? Why have the popes and bishops protected their priests for eons with the pedophilia going on? Young children's lives have been destroyed by their sins.

If the church wants to be involved in politics, blatantly, then it is time they pay taxes.

Mr. Anon 6:43, you are welcome to your strong Catholic faith and happy it works for you... but vote on your own conscience and don't feel you have the right to be the movers and shakers of this country. This country was based on the understanding of religious freedom for everyone, not just Catholics and born again Christians.

Yes, changes are coming to the Catholic church. Hopefully its corruption, its greed, its pedophile system and everything else that is wrong about it including control and manipulation will be cleaned up just like the corrupt government. Because it is just as bad or worse than the governments.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH aka VATICAN is pure EVIL...all they do is TAKE YOUR MONEY and hoard it! THEY DO NOT REPRESENT the morals of Jesus. THEY ASSISTED HILTER, for God sake, and helped MURDER MILLIONS of people from all parts of Europe and not just the JEWS!

THIS BISHOP HAS NO RIGHT USING THE PULPIT to further the Vatican's agenda.

WOMEN have the right to do what they want with their body and perhaps if the CATHOLIC CHURCH taught SEX EDUCATION, there would be no need for "unwanted pregnancies" at this time in our history! IT IS A FARCE!

Most people FORGET why women wanted this right! WHY? Because they were being forced to have sex and unlimited children without any recourse! Women were being raped and treated as SECOND CLASS citizens. Sadly, the CATHOLIC CHURCH still views women in this manner!

ALL CATHOLICS reading this, did you know that the Vatican has MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in their bank! WHAT HAS THE VATICAN done to help ELIMINATE poverty? NOTHING....

The CATHOLIC Charities NO LONGER will help women in Africa because contraception was being given out there! Really? How PATHETIC is that?!

My question is, HOW MUCH ARE THE CATHOLIC PRIESTS/BISHOPS being PAID by the VATICAN to do this?

They don't want Obama re-elected because HE IS EXPOSING THE TRUTH.

THE VATICAN is in Bed with Queen Elizabeth who is in bed with papa Bush who is in bed with Bernanke and the big banks in the USA.

WAKE UP CATHOLICS and see things AS THEY ARE and not as you would like them to be! Yes, it is ugly but the sooner you realize the evil of this entity, the sooner it will be done!

PS: Stop giving your money to your church and give instead to someone you know who needs it!

AND YES - CHURCH AND STATE ARE NOT suppose to be in bed with each other!

i totally agree. I am a Catholic, but I do not feel the church as the right to tell me who to vote for. It is really hypocritical because they are not telling us the truth about priests who have offended. I believe in separation of Church and State. I love my church but I am a thinking awake adult who can make my own decisions on who should run the country I live in.
